Services

Overview

Operating from two main sites at Palmerstown and Balgaddy in South West Dublin, and several satellite residential and service centres throughout West Dublin and North Kildare, Stewarts provides extensive on-site and community based services. At present Stewarts supports over 300 residents, and provides wide-ranging services for some 600 clients: children and adult day attenders. Many families are also supported within their homes through Stewarts Home Support Programme.

Nationwide, Stewarts offers specialist services often dealing with the most profoundly disabled people with whom other services cannot easily cope.

Stewarts offers a full range of pre-school services for 2-5 year old children with a developmental delay.
Stewarts School for pupils with moderate, severe and profound intellectual disability was established in 1962 and is very much part of the continuum of services at Stewarts Care Ltd aimed at providing a life long service to its clients.

It is recognised that young people with a learning disability need to further their education beyond the provision of secondary schooling. In association with the School of Occupational Therapy, Trinity College, Dublin, we have developed an innovative project where clients follow an NCVA Foundation Curriculum, with an emphasis on obtaining mainstream education provision. Students have access to an Information Technology Programme and a Visual Arts Programme at Trinity College, where they also participate in regular student campus life. The programme has also developed links with a number of secondary schools in West Dublin for the provision of core curriculum subjects.

Rossecourt Rescource Centre is an integrated project between the local community, Stewarts and FAS. It provides training and education for 100 young people. The training centre was developed to break down the barriers for our young people in accessing mainstream education and training. The centre offers them opportunities to develop their abilities and skills for the transition to independent living. As a result of research and experience an integrated approach to training has been developed which is community based.

Training modules include Communications, Food & Cookery, Health Related Fitness, Computer Literacy, Visual Arts Practice, Craft Puppetry, Art/Design, Maths, Personal Effectiveness, Preparation for Work and Horticulture, all of which are certified by FETAC.

Stewarts Sports and Leisure Centre in Palmerstown, was developed as a hospital resource to provide special hydrotherapy sessions and leisure facilities for the clients of Stewarts. Apart from meeting these requirements, the Sports and Leisure Centre has developed as an important community resource for people living in West Dublin. Our premier facilities are open for public use and include water safety training and swimming classes.
