Assistant Psychologist

We have an exciting opportunity for Assistant Psychologist to work as part of the Children Network Disability Team (CDNT).

Applications are invited for: 1 WTE Temporary Full time ( 12 months period) for CDNT-5 (Lucan/Lucan Esker/Lucan St. Helen’s) based in Rossecourt, Lucan.

The Organization

Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disability in the West Dublin area. Stewarts is the lead agency for two newly established interdisciplinary CDNT teams (CDNT-5 and 6) in line with Progressing Children’s Disability Services. These teams will be based in Stewarts Care Palmerstown and Rossecourt, Lucan.

Purpose of the Post:

We are seeking an energetic, flexible, innovative, and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join our newly established CDNT To provide quality, evidence-based, and family-centered psychology service to children and young people (0 – 18 years) with complex needs within an interdisciplinary framework. The post holder will provide psychological services as part of community disability network services operating within a family-centered model for service delivery.

The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to contribute to psychological and positive behavior support and support clinical interventions including systematic observations and functional assessments; recording, monitoring and evaluating interventions and training programmes; contributing to evidence- based formulations and assisting with staff training and programme implementation. The Assistant Psychologist will be supervised by Senior Psychologist and line managed by Children’s Network Disability Manager. To be considered for this post applicants must demonstrate the following:

Essential Criteria

  • Have a Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) accredited qualification at not less than a Level 8 at 2.1 honours grade on the QQI qualifications framework in which psychology was a major subject


  • A Level 8 honours degree in another subject ( 2.1) or higher) together with an accredited conversation qualification at a minimum of ( 2.1) as conferring eligibility for graduate membership of the Psychological Association of Ireland


  • A qualification equivalent to the above accredited by the British Psychological Society for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society


  • Demonstrate competence in the area of working with children and families with disabilities

  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and ability, for the proper discharge of the office

  • Knowledge of the relevant children and disability-related legislation and standards of practice.

  • Have a full clean driving license and access to a car.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of the inter-disciplinary team working.

  • Experience of working with children and adolescents Knowledge and skills in the management of behaviours of concern

  • Experience of working with adults or children who have ASD and an Intellectual Disability.

  • Training and/or experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis.

  • Strong IT skills.

  • Masters level qualification in Psychology

  • Research and evaluation skills

Salary and qualifications are per HSE consolidated pay scales: The (single-point) salary scale for the post is at (01/10/2021): €27,366 per annum
