Care Assistant/ Early Years Support Worker – Preschool (Ref: SC290926)

Location: Primarily based in Palmerstown.
Reporting Relationship: Person in Charge and/or person designated by them.
Job Purpose
The overall role and responsibility of the Care Assistant/Early Years Support Worker in the preschool is to provide support to children with a Global Developmental Delay and their families through education plans and play, to assist the child in achieving their full potential. This person will work as part of a dedicated team to provide high-quality, safe, nurturing, and inclusive care and education to children with Intellectual Disabilities and additional support needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Report to and assist the room leaders in the delivery of appropriate services to all children attending Preschool and their families
Adhere to all Stewarts Care policies, Tusla guidelines and Policies and all other Governmental, National and International Policy
Assist in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of creative programmes suitable for Children with an Intellectual Disability, ensuring all efforts are made to cater for all the child’s needs.
Promote children’s dignity, privacy, choice, independence and inclusion.
Follow each child’s individual care plans, risk assessments and agreed strategies.
Support children with additional needs which also may include palliative care needs.
Participate in the development of planning, preparation and delivery of activities in line with the principles and themes of Aistear.
Receive reports, report back on observations and provide written reports as required. Appreciate the importance of legal aspects and be able to write a statement concerning any accident or incident which occurs to a child, staff member, customer or visitor.
To accept delegated responsibility for children when requested by the Line Manager
To participate in all areas of their own Learning and Development
To attend all compulsory training within the Service
To observe a strict Code of Confidentiality
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria:
Minimum QQI Level 5 (Childcare)
Meet minimum DCYA Early years recognised Qualifications
Strong desire to work with Children with Intellectual Disability
The aptitude to provide a child and family centred approach to Education, Learning and Care
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
Excellent knowledge of Tusla Early Years inspectorate - Quality and Regulatory Framework
Experience of working with children in an early-years, disability, education or care setting
IT skills
Delivery of the Aistear programme
Desirable:
Experience of Tusla inspections
Experience of working with Children with Autism
First Aid

Terms and Conditions of Employment
Remuneration | Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales. Salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis. Current Salary Scale: €34,881- €49,434 per annum. Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH salary scales and on a pro-rata basis |
Working week | The hours allocated to this post are 19.5 hours per week, exclusive of lunch breaks. The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the line manager in accordance with the needs of the service. The successful applicant must have a flexible approach to the hours of work, depending on the needs of the service. This role is responsible for leading crisis/emergency response to non-care issues.

Pension | This is a pensionable position. The successful candidate upon appointment will be become a member of the appropriate pension scheme. This will be detailed in the contract of employment. |
Probation | All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role. |
Garda Vetting | Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees. |
