Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities in the West Dublin area.

In line with progressing Children’s Disability Services, Stewarts Care is the lead agency for interdisciplinary CDNT teams, CDNT5 and 6. These teams are based in Stewarts Care, Palmerstown, and Rossecourt, Lucan.  This post is for CDNT 5, Lucan.

Purpose of the Post:

We are seeking an energetic, flexible, innovative and enthusiastic Senior Social Worker to join our team to provide a quality evidence based Social Work service, including assessment of family needs, and a range of advisory, practical and skilled emotional supports to families and children, aged 0 to 18 with disabilities. Group work, safeguarding and training work are also important aspects of the role.

The Senior Social worker will carry a case load, including a greater complexity of individual/family need, supervise social work staff & students as required and take the social work lead in key areas of service development, reporting to the CDNT manager.

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:

  • 3 years post qualification experience minimum.

  • Must be registered in the Social Work Register maintained by the Social Work Registration Board at CORU

  • Must maintain live registration in the Social Work Register maintained by the Social Work Registration Board at CORU

  • Experience of working with families & children

  • Experience of working in Disability, Child Safeguarding, Group work, acting in a senior position are desirable but not essential.

Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales. Salary Scale is Senior Social Worker. €66,055-€76,194 per annum

The Senior Social Worker will report to the Children’s Disability Network Manager

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a quality evidence based Social Work service including assessment of family needs, and a range of advisory, practical and skilled emotional supports to children and young people (0 to 18) and their families accessing the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) 5 Lucan Rossecourt.

The service is provided within the Progressing Disabilities Services for Children and young people (PDS) framework, with interdisciplinary team working and family centred practice at its core.

Scope of the Role

The duties of this post will include direct intervention with children and families, particularly those with complexity and requiring a high level of experience. In addition, they may involve provision of support and supervision and induction to professionally qualified social worker (s) and students, on the team, and taking the social work lead on particular team projects or developments as directed by the CDNT Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the delivery of social work supports in keeping with evidence based professional practice and subject to agreed policy directives and priorities.

  • Provide initial and holistic social work assessments and intervention to individuals, families and groups.

  • Identify service users’ individual and collective needs in partnership with them and co-create early interventions and/or social action strategies to meet those needs through the Individual Family Service Plan meetings.

  • Provide supportive counselling, emotional and practical support, and information to service users and their families.

  • To manage and prioritise own caseload/workload within the context of the CDNT.

  • Manage a social work caseload which will include a greater complexity of individual/family need, and which requires high levels of experience and expertise.

  • To promote and deliver supports within the ethos and philosophy of Stewarts Care and within the principles of Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People. This includes working as part of an interdisciplinary team providing family centred services in line with agreed national and legislative policies.

  • Work in partnership with families in providing a range of social work supports to them and to facilitate families where required in accessing community supports and respite services.

  • To provide clinical supervision to professionally qualified social workers on the Children’s Disability Network Team as required.

  • To provide supervision to social work students and induction support to new social workers as required

  • To engage in professional supervision in line with the supervision policy.

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with the Children’s Disability Network Manager, and any other professionals, specialist services, community and voluntary organisations, to provide integrated quality care to service users and facilitate clear channels of communication to relevant management structures in relation to social work service issues.

  • To identify and prioritise the social work needs within the team and advise/recommend appropriate actions to the Children’s Disability Network Manager.

  • To contribute to the ongoing education, mentoring, training and in-service needs of social workers on team.

  • To ensure that service user’s records, progress reports and staff records are kept up to date in line with agreed Children’s Disability Network Team policy.

  • Effectively assist with service developments on the team ensuring the implementation of current and evolving legislation, policies and procedures, guidelines and protocols relevant to Stewarts Care and the Children’s Disability Network team.

  • Provide training to parents, students and others as required and act as a resource by participating in the education and training of social work colleagues and other health professionals as required.

  • Develop, implement and support new and existing individual and group programmes for service users and their families.

  • Participate in the evaluation of the service and in research initiatives as required.

  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings and case conferences/ Individual family Service Planning meetings and to chair these meetings as required.

  • Act as a resource to the CDNM and team on child protection issues and provide relevant training as required.

  • Incorporate Social Work values and ethical principles in planning, developing, implementing and reviewing interventions.

  • GDPR compliance in the course of carrying out my duties and working with others which will include but not limited to compliance with all Stewarts Care GDPR policies and procedures, attending all GDPR training sessions, ensuring personal responsibility for implementing safeguards and measures as directed to minimise exposure to breach of GDPR and understanding how to perform my role to ensure Stewarts Care is GDPR compliant in line with best practice.

Qualifications & Experience

Remuneration

Salary is in accordance with HSE consolidated pay scales. This is a full-time position 35 hours per week. Social Worker Senior Medical scale €66,055-€76,194 per annum

Annual leave

29 Days per annum

Working week

The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week (with a 7-hour standard working day, exclusive of lunch breaks)

The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the CEO and in accordance with the needs of the service

Probation

All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required of 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.

Garda Vetting

Stewarts will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees.
