Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities in the West Dublin area.
We support people with a wide range of support needs across residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.
Purpose of the Post:
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high standard of Occupational Therapy Services for Stewarts Care Service Users and will carry out clinical and educational duties as assigned by the Occupational Therapist Manager.
Working in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager, the Senior Occupational Therapist will ensure the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy Service to meet the needs of the service users and the objectives of the organisation. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Studies or equivalent qualification. Professional Qualifications received outside the Republic of Ireland including the U.K must be validated by the Validation unit of CORU prior to commencement of employment.
Registered with CORU as an Occupational Therapist
Membership or eligibility for membership of the Irish Association of Occupational Therapists
Minimum of three years satisfactory post qualification experience
Excellent communication skills
Evidence of the ability to achieve results through effective collaboration in a complex environment.
Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales: Occupational Therapist Senior €59,478 - €70,033 per annum.

Job Purpose

The Senior Occupational Therapist will work in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager in ensuring the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy Service to meet the needs of the service users and the objectives of the organisation. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Scope of the Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team, providing Occupational therapy services to people with an intellectual disability.
The primary brief of the post will be working with adults in Stewarts Care services. This is an exciting opportunity to join the existing occupational therapy department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Provide a quality occupational therapy service through assessment, diagnosis and management.
Work in partnership with the Service User, their family/ caregiver(s) and other members of the multidisciplinary team, including nursing and care staff regarding the co-ordination of occupational therapy intervention.
Contribute to current departmental quality improvement work that may include, project work, research, evaluation, audit, service development and evaluation of resources.
Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure integrated care for the Service User.
Represent the department / profession / team at meetings and conferences as designated by the OT Manager.
Consult with parents/guardians/Service Users regarding assessment, treatment and education as appropriate.
Manage clinical and non-clinical caseloads appropriate to the post.
Become familiar with and work in accordance with relevant HSE policies, HIQA standards, New Directions, legislation and professional policies, guidelines and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
Promote a culture that values equality, diversity and respect in the workplace.
In conjunction with the Occupational Therapy Manager, contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and guidelines while adhering to existing standards and protocols.
Supervision of Basic Grade Occupational Therapist and student Occupational Therapists as appropriate.
Education & Training
Contribute to and participate in OT and MDT education sessions.
Engage in the education of colleagues, student OTs, Service Users and other health care professionals.
Partake in career and personal development planning. Maintain own professional development and competence.
Actively participate in induction, clinical supervision, mentoring, appraisal, clinical reflection and be open to reflective practice.
Attend mandatory training programmes as directed by Stewarts Care.
Abide by the code of ethics of the Irish Association of Occupational Therapists/CORU.
Administrative
Keep up to date records, reports and statistics as required.
Engage in service planning activities in consultation with the Head of Clinical Services and OT Manager.
Represent the service at meetings and conferences as designated.
Health & Safety
Comply with the policies, procedures and safe professional practice of the Irish Healthcare System by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
Assist in the development, implementation and review of the department’s Health and Safety statement, as appropriate.
Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of the relevant person(s)
Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others
Be aware of risk management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action.
Comply with department procedures with regard to assessment, recommendation and / or manufacturing of all assistive devices.
Support a culture that values diversity and respect.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Remuneration
Current Salary Scale: Senior Occupational Therapist €59,478 -€70,033 per annum
Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH scales
Annual leave
29 Days per annum
Working week
The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week with a 7-hour standard working day, exclusive of lunch breaks.
The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the OT Manager and in accordance with the needs of the service.
Probation
All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.
Garda Vetting
Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the Service Users and employees.
