Senior Occupational Therapist– Assessment of Need Children’s Disability Network Team – CDNT5 - SC045

The Organisation:
Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities in the West Dublin area.
We support people with a wide range of support needs across residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.
Stewarts Care is the lead agency for two interdisciplinary CDNT teams (CDNT-5 and 6) in line with Progressing Children’s Disability Services. This position is based in CDNT5, Rossecourt.
Purpose of the post:
This post is initially to work on Assessment of Need assessments for children and the post will transition fully onto the CDNT team.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will work as a member of the interdisciplinary team in collaboration with MDT colleagues providing services to children from 0-18 years and families who are accessing the Children's Disability Network Team.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of an occupational therapy service to include assessment diagnostics and intervention and ongoing service delivery to children with complex needs and their families.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will take a lead role in key areas of service development, reporting to the CDNT manager. Professional clinical supervision will be provided.
The ability to manage and prioritize a busy caseload, and work in an inter-disciplinary way using a family centered practice approach are also keys requirements of the role.

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU – candidates must state CORU registration number on application.
Practitioners must maintain annual CORU registration and provide evidence of registration with CORU.
All candidates must have three years full time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical experience.
Have excellent communication and team-working skills.
Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a self-directed manner.
Experience of the inter-disciplinary team working desirable.
Experience of working in the area of disabilities and or with children would be an advantage.
Ideally have knowledge of relevant National Health and Social Care Frameworks for children's disability services.
Experience in supporting 24-hour postural management needs desirable.
Experience in the implementation of sensory integration approaches desirable.
Knowledge of Community Healthcare Organisation Governance of Children’s Disability Network Service desirable.

Job Purpose
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a quality evidence-based Occupational Therapy service including assessing, planning, and implementing family-centered occupational therapy intervention based on the individual needs of children and young people (0 to 18) and their families supported by the Children’s Disability Network Team. The service is provided within the Progressing Disabilities Services for Children and young people (PDS) framework, with interdisciplinary team working and family-centred practice at its core.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Participate in the Assessment of Need (AON) process as assigned, working as part of an AON sub team within the CDNT for initial period.
Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and review of occupational therapy intervention programmes for children supported by the Children’s Disability Network Team. This is needs-based and focussed on achieving outcomes that are defined and prioritised by the child and their family through the Individual Family Service Plan meeting.
Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure integrated goal setting and support for children and their families.
Prioritise caseload based on clinical needs of the child and as agreed with the family through an IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan).
Document all assessments, intervention plans, progress notes, and reports in accordance with professional standards.
Arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner within settings appropriate to service users and in line with service policy/guidelines.
Maintain quality standards of practice and participate in quality assurance and clinical audit as appropriate.
Become familiar with and work in accordance with relevant HSE policies, HIQA standards, Progressing Disabilities, legislation and professional policies, guidelines, and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
Promote a culture that values equality, diversity, and respect in the workplace.
Become familiar with the key National policy documents for children disability services such as the National Access policy, National policy on prioritization of referral among others. Work in accordance with relevant HSE policies, Assessment of Need SOP, HIQA standards, and professional policies, guidelines and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
In conjunction with the CDNM, contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and guidelines while adhering to existing standards and protocols.
Work within limits of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance
Undertake Key Worker role as required.
Represent the department / profession / team at meetings and conferences as designated by the CDNM.
Supervision of Basic Grade OT’s and student OT’s as appropriate.
Continuous Professional Development
Contribute to and participate in OT and interdisciplinary education sessions.
Engage in the education of colleagues, student OTs, Service Users, families, teachers, SNAs and other health care professionals.
Partake in career and personal development planning. Maintain own professional development and competence.
Actively participate in induction, clinical supervision, mentoring, appraisal, clinical reflection and be open to reflective practice.
Attend mandatory training programmes as directed by Stewarts Care.
Abide by the code of ethics of the Association of Occupational Therapists Ireland AOTI /CORU.
Administrative
Keep up to date and accurate updated occupational therapy records, reports and statistics as required / advised by CDNM
Ensure that confidentiality is always maintained.
Compliance with Stewarts Care HR policies with respect to all types of leave, to ensure the Occupational Therapy service needs are met.
Compliance with Health and Safety regulations within the workplace at all times
Contribute to implementing and achieving KPIs as agreed by the children’s disability network manager.
Represent the service at meetings and conferences as designated.
Quality and Risk, Health and Safety Management
Participate in any quality improvement projects and change initiatives which may be introduced.
Follow and adhere to all risk related guidelines as stipulated by Risk Management.
Ensure the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to all organisational stakeholders.
Maintain appropriate service user record details and statistics in accordance with organisational and departmental guidelines, along with the Freedom of Information Act.
Comply with and contribute to the development of relevant organisational policies, legislation and professional policies, guidelines and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others.
Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards and Guidance as they apply to the role.
Assist in the development, implementation and review of the department’s Health and Safety statement, as appropriate.
Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of the relevant person(s)
Comply with department and service procedures with regard to assessment, recommendation and / or manufacturing of all assistive devices
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy Studies or equivalent qualification. Professional Qualifications received outside the Republic of Ireland including the U.K must be validated by the Validation unit of CORU prior to commencement of employment.
Registered with CORU as an Occupational Therapist
Membership or eligibility for membership of the Irish Association of Occupational Therapists
Minimum of three years satisfactory post qualification experience
Excellent communication skills
This job description is an overview of the general duties for the Senior Occupational Therapy role within the Children’s Disability Network Team. Other duties may be included, if necessary, by the CDNM and /or Clinical Director.

Remuneration
Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales.
Senior Occupational Therapist: €58,599- €68,998 per annum.
Annual leave
29 Days per annum pro-rata
Working week
The hours allocated to this post are 17.5 hours per week.
The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the Head of the Clinic and in accordance with the needs of the service.
Probation
All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.
Garda Vetting
Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the Service Users and employees.
