The Organisation:

Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disability in the West Dublin area.

We support people with a wide range of support needs across residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.

Purpose of the Post:

To provide a family-centered and quality-driven psychological services as part of an inter-disciplinary team and within established professional standards, guidelines and policy for children with complex needs attending services in the Children Disability Network (CDNT).

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:

• Have a university degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject.

And

• Have an Irish post-graduate professional psychology qualification accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland in Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychology

Or

• An equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction validated by the Department of Health. Application for this post must be inclusive of letter of validation.

And

• Applicants must have at least five years satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology, no more than three years of which was spent in gaining the postgraduate professional qualification and no less than two years full-time spent in post-qualification experience as a professional psychologist. Years in excess of the permitted three years for completion of the post-graduate training or time not worked will not be taken into consideration when assessing the five years’ experience requirement.

• Demonstrate competence in the area of working with children with disabilities.

• Possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and ability, for the proper discharge of the office.

• Knowledge of the relevant children and disability-related legislation and standards of practice.

• Must be fully proficient in ICT skills.

• Experience providing clinical supervision to psychologists (basic grade) and/or the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists.

Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales. Salary Scale is Senior Psychologist €90,314-€106,158 inc LSI per annum.

Job Purpose

To provide a family-centered and quality-driven psychological services as part of an inter-disciplinary team and within established professional standards, guidelines and policy for children with complex needs attending services in the Children Disability Network (CDN).

Scope of the Role

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team, providing quality psychological services to children attending the service based on the family Centered model of practice.

In line with the Progressing Children’s Disability Services (PDS), the brief of the post will be working with children with the CDNT in Stewart’s Care Services which is the lead agency for two CDNT teams (CDNT-5 and 6). The assignment will initially be focused on assessment of needs.

These teams are based in Stewarts Care Palmerstown and Rossecourt, Lucan. Flexibility may be required by the post-holder to meet the needs of the children supported by the organisation if deemed necessary as may be directed by the CDNM.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• The Senior Psychologist will report to the CDNM for line management, clinical governance and for clinical assurance regarding supervision while operating within the organisations Clinical Services as a member of the CDNT.

• The Senior Psychologist will be responsible for the delivery of psychology services to children and families within their CDN area.

• The Senior Psychologist will be responsible for consultation regarding the work of clinical psychologists (basic grade) and the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists who may be assigned to the area of responsibility of the post holder.

• The Senior Psychologist will be responsible for the clinical supervision of other psychological staff as assigned by the CDNM

• To undertake assessment, therapy, appropriate interventions and preventative programmes in accordance with the professional competence of clinical psychologists.

• To provide professional reports and information to other professional staff and such other reports as appropriate.

• To undertake research in clinical psychology and to co-operate in research and evaluation programmes as appropriate.

• Work within limits of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance

• Undertake Key Worker role as required.

Continuous Professional Development

• Contribute to and participate in Psychology and interdisciplinary education sessions.

• Engage in the education of colleagues, student Psychologists, Service Users and other health care professionals.

• Partake in career and personal development planning. Maintain own professional development and competence.

• Actively participate in induction, clinical supervision, mentoring, appraisal, clinical reflection and be open to reflective practice.

• Attend mandatory training programmes as directed by Stewarts Care.

• Abide by the code of ethics of the Psychological Society of Ireland

Administrative

• Keep up to date records, reports and statistics as required.

• Engage in service planning activities in consultation with the Head of Clinical Services and Principal Psychologist.

• Represent the service at meetings and conferences as designated.

Health & Safety

• Comply with the policies, procedures and safe professional practice of the Irish Healthcare System by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

• Assist in the development, implementation and review of the department’s Health and Safety statement, as appropriate

• Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of the relevant person(s)

• Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others

• Be aware of risk management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action

• Support a culture that values diversity and respect.

Remuneration

Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales.

Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH scales €90,314-€106,158 inc LSI per annum.

Annual leave

29 days per annum

Working week

The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week with a 7-hour standard working day, exclusive of lunch breaks

The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the CDNM and in accordance with the needs of the service

Probation

All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required of 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.

Garda Vetting

Stewarts will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the Service Users and employees.
