Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities in the West Dublin area.
We support people with a wide range of support needs across residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.
Stewarts Care is the lead agency for two interdisciplinary CDNT teams in line with Progressing Children’s Disability Services. These teams are based in Stewarts Care Palmerstown and Rossecourt, Lucan. This position is based in CDNT 6, Palmerstown.
Purpose of the Post:
This post is initially to work on Assessment of Need assessments for children and the post will transition fully onto the CDNT team.
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will work as a member of the interdisciplinary team in collaboration with MDT colleagues providing services to children from 0-18 years and families who are accessing the Children's Disability Network Team.
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a speech and language therapy service to include assessment diagnostics and intervention including involvement in the FEDs service and contributing to ongoing service delivery to children with complex needs and their families.
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will take a lead role in key areas of service development, reporting to the CDNT manager. Professional clinical supervision will be provided.
The ability to manage and prioritize a busy caseload, and work in an inter-disciplinary way using a family centred practice approach are also keys requirements of the role.

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
Hold a qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Speech and Language Therapy Registration Board at CORU.
Practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Speech and Language Therapy Register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapy Registration Board at CORU.
Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification clinical experience.
Experience of the inter-disciplinary team working service delivery planning and development is an advantage.
Experience working with children or adults with complex communication needs is an advantage.
Experience of working in the area of disabilities is an advantage.
Experience working with paediatric clients presenting with dysphagia is an advantaged.

Job Purpose
To provide a range of speech and language therapy services to children 0 – 18 years and their families who attend Children Network Disability Team (CDNT6), within an interdisciplinary framework and family centred practice and to support other staff and students as assigned.
Incorporates the provision of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (FEDS) management.
Have the responsibilities of a Mandated Person as outlined in the Child Care Act 2015.
Scope of the Role
The scope of the post will be working with children and young people (0-18) with complex needs and their families.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide quality evidence-based Speech & Language Therapy service including assessment of family needs, and a range of advisory, practical and skilled emotional supports the service is provided within the Progressing Disabilities Services for Children and young people (PDS) framework, with interdisciplinary team working and family centred practice at its core.
The brief of the post will be working with children in CDNT 6 in Stewart’s Care Services which is the lead agency for two CDNT’s (CDNT-5 and 6) in line with ethos of Progressing Children’s Disability Services (PDS). Initial assignment will be in the assessment of needs.
Qualifications & Experience
Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification clinical experience.
Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Speech and Language Therapist by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
Previous speech and language therapy experience working with children or within the disability sector.
Experience of inter/transdisciplinary team working.
Experience working with children with disorders of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (FEDS) needs.
Any relevant post graduate training specific to child disability services.
Specific training and experience in assessment of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Experience in assessment of children who have a physical and/or sensory disability and/or intellectual disability.
Experience of supporting children/young persons with life limiting conditions.
Previous experience in a senior post.
Experience of completing assessments under the AON process.
Organisation and Professional Knowledge
Understanding of, and commitment to, the Social Model of Disability
Understanding of the role of other disciplines in the interdisciplinary team
Understanding of Best Practice in Record Keeping
Understanding of legislation relevant to the post e.g., Disability Act, Data Protection Act.
Knowledge and understanding of the theory and frameworks of assessment and intervention in Speech & Language Therapy
Understanding and knowledge of Progressing Disability Services.
Understanding and knowledge of clinical support and supervision.
Evidence and commitment to continuous professional development.
Demonstrate experience in the provision of mentoring, coaching and supervision is desirable.
Experience of MDT or Interdisciplinary working is an advantage.
Experience of Assessment of Need is an advantage.
Experience of caseload prioritisation Systems is an advantage.

Remuneration
Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales.
Current Salary Scale: Senior Speech and Language Therapist: €58,599-€68,998 per annum including LSI. Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH scales.
Incremental credit will be applied based on recognised relevant service.
Annual leave
29 days per annum
Working week
The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week with a 7-standard working day, exclusive of lunch breaks.
The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of CDNM.
Probation
All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.
Garda Vetting
Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees.
