Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities.

We support people across a wide range of services within residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.

Purpose of the Post:

The overall role and responsibility of a Team Member in the Preschool is to provide support to provide support to Children with a Global Developmental Delay and their families through education plans and play in order to assist the child in achieving their full potential.

Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum QQI Level 7 relevant qualification

  • Meet DCYA Early years recognised Qualifications as “Room leader”.

  • Strong desire to work with Children with Intellectual Disability

  • The aptitude to provide a child and family centred approach to Education, Learning and Care

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and non-verbal

  • Knowledge of Tusla Early Years inspectorate - Quality and Regulatory Framework

  • Experience of working within the childcare setting

  • IT skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with Children with an Intellectual Disability

  • Experience of Tusla registration and Aistear

  • Experience of working with Children with ASD

Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales. Current Salary Scale: €41,075-€59,360 LSI Per annum (pro-rata).

Job Purpose

The overall role and responsibility of a Team Member in the Preschool is to provide support to provide support to Children with a Global Developmental Delay and their families through education plans and play in order to assist the child in achieving their full potential.

Scope of the Role

As a Team Member in Stewarts Care Preschool, the role incumbent will assist in the delivery of programmes in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Duties

  • To assist Senior Team member in the delivery of appropriate services to all children and their families attending Preschool, having due regard for their safety and the safety of others, both on and off the premises in accordance with Stewarts Policy.

  • To ensure that all efforts are made to cater for the physical, social, educational, cognitive and emotional needs of the children to ensure the highest quality of care.

  • To assist in the day to day running of the Preschool so that the service is run in a manner that is in keeping with the highest professional standards.

  • To carry out necessary assessments, develop plans and programmes, implement, and evaluate all plans and programmes both individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team.  

  • To accept delegated responsibility for children that attend the Preschool.

  • To participate in and keep up to date with own continual professional development in co-ordination with Stewarts Learning and Development department and Line Manager.

  • To observe strictly the Code of Confidentiality.

  • Adhere to all Stewarts Care, governmental and national policies.  

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work directly with children attending Preschool and their families.

  • Plan/develop programmes and classroom activities in order to assist the child in achieving their full potential.

  • Gather, analyse data and report appropriately in order to guide decision making and improve performance.

  • Perform other reasonable and relevant duties as deemed necessary and directed by Line Manager.

  • Adhere to all National standards as set out by ‘Early Years Inspectorate – Quality and Regulatory Framework’.

Quality, Service User Safety and Governance

  • Maintain the highest possible standards at all times in relation to “Best Practice” Health / Safety, Hygiene and Delivery of Service.

  • Be responsible for implementation of risk management policy and procedures.

  • Ensure that the health and welfare of staff and service users is maintained in accordance with Stewarts Care procedures and that all safety precautions are implemented.

  • Apply Children’s First policies and ensure they are adhered to within the Preschool.

  • Be responsible for the implementation of fire safety recommendations and standards as identified by the fire safety officer.

  • Maintain a code of confidentiality and discretion in all dealings with service users, families and staff.

  • Administer, supervise and record prescribed medication, where trained and applicable.

Finance and Resources

  • Be accountable for all resources and budgetary provisions within area of responsibility. Implement appropriate systems to ensure accountability is appropriately disseminated throughout the service. 

  • To provide support to students on placement.

  • Follow the reporting mechanism for all incidents/accidents and record same.

  • To provide written reports as required and have an appreciation of the importance of legal aspects and be able to write a factual statement concerning an accident or incident which occurs.

  • Ensure appropriate management practices are applied and performance management strategies, as outlined by the HR Department, are implemented.

  • Ensure all staff within area of accountability, meet the requirements outlined by the L&D department for core competency training and best practice training.

  • Provide regular supervision to staff.

  • Co-ordinate staff meetings to enhance teamwork and promote good communication.

  • Identify staff training needs and deficits.

  • Observe strictly the Code of Confidentiality.

Terms and Conditions of Employment

Team Member, Preschool – Stewarts Care

Remuneration

  • Current Salary Scale: €41,075-€59,360LSI (Occupational Therapist Salary Scale), Your salary is paid monthly (16th unless when 16th falls on Saturday or Sunday you are paid on the Friday prior to the 16th) by direct credit transfer into any Bank or Building Society of your choice where the paypath system operates. 

  • Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with Department of Health salary scales

Annual leave

  • 24 Days per annum (pro-rata)

Working week

  • The hours allocated to this post are 27.5 hours per week exclusive of lunch breaks.

  • The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the Director of Care and in accordance with the needs of the service

Probation

  • All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.

Garda Vetting

  • Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees.
