Training and Social Enterprises

The Coach House Café, Craft Shop and Education Centre was opened by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, on December 6th, 2004. Coach House Front View

The Coach House is a new and innovative project of Stewarts Care Ltd, which offers an outreach programme for rehabilitative training and sheltered employment for people with learning disabilities. As part of our training area in catering and hospitality, you will meet our service users who are receiving training, supported by our Job Advocacy Support Service (JASS).

The Coach House is situated in the middle of Palmerstown Village fronting onto the Old Lucan Road. Today there is no trace of the coaches or teams of horses which it was originally built to accommodate as such things are long forgotten, part of more sedate and elegant times past. Today it offers an experience of an Aladdin’s cave, the delights of many unusual products sourced from around the world, as well as our own beautifully hand-crafted pottery, woodcraft and textiles designed by Stewarts Workshops.

Coach House ConservatoryThe Café is open every day producing healthy breakfast, morning coffee/tea and fresh homemade scones and pastries between 8.00am and 11.30am. Light lunches served between 12.00pm and 2.30pm are made fresh daily by our experienced chefs with a choice of appetising homemade soups, homemade breads, wraps/bagels/paninis and fresh salads. In the afternoon why not relax in the comfortable couches in our lovely conservatory and enjoy our fresh cream cakes and scones accompanied by our choice of coffees and speciality teas.

There is live musical entertainment on a Friday evening from 7.00-9.00pm especially for our residents and we encourage family, community, staff & service users to attend. Service users and family are key influences to the range of services provided by the Coach House.

The Education Centre caters for a group of adults through the P.A.T.H. process “Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope”. This process helps each individual determine their personal timetables and enables them to set their weekly and short term goals as well as participating in the group programme. The realisation of individuals dreams, goals and aspirations are supported by all the staff who work in the Coach House to whatever extent possible.

The service users within the Coach House are the driving force of all our programmes; goals are achieved through participation in a wide variety of activities such as dance, cookery and art. Service users enjoy out of centre weekly studies in Lucan Life Centre where they travel independently to classes. We have an educational link with NCAD (National College for Art and Design). This involves students completing a work placement with the Coach House and other areas where many new and exciting art projects are developed.
