The Adapted Physical Activity (APA) Programme is an inclusive exercise and well-being programme for adults supported by Stewarts Care.

The APA Programme offers accessible and personalised gym and pool-based activities aimed at improving physical activity levels and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Based in the Stewarts Sports and APA Centre, beside Waterstown Park, programme participants engage in a range of personalised gym sessions, aquatic activities, and group activities.

Engaging in physical activity has many benefits, including improved physical and mental health, and cognitive function. Among the primary motivations for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate in physical activity are improving health and fitness, spending quality time with friends and family, and managing weight control.

The APA Programme offers a range of activities, catering for a wide range of preferences and abilities. Some of the activities offered to participants include gym-based strength & conditioning workouts, Special Olympics athletics, Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Programme, Special Olympics swimming, power-chair soccer, and more. Throughout the year, the APA Team organise fitness-oriented events that champion exercise and healthy living. One such event is the annual Operation Transformation program, aimed at kickstarting the year with a focus on wellness. Other events include swimming galas, synchronised swimming demonstrations and sports days.

The Stewarts Sports and APA Centre is a state-of-the-art facility with an accessible gym and a 25meter hydrotherapy pool with both seated and supine entry hoists to aid access as required. The changing facilities include purpose built-accessible rooms with ceiling tracking for those who require additional support.
